Some schools offer access to those services in their libraries, you should check it our. Investment Banks always provide access to one of those options, but M&A boutiques normally don't.
Research reports are even better to those expensive sources. Research reports are priceless. Brokers/Dealers provide research reports to their qualified investors (and investment bankers). If you are neither, you should invest in your network (it will be handy). If you have access to research report, share it. Share is care, and you will most certainly need it someday.
Look for other sources of information - they will be more or less useful depending on what you are looking for. Some providers are more affordable, but also less comprehensive such as Comdinheiro and Economática. Newspapers and magazines (Valor, The Wall Street, Exame, etc) are normally quite useful and there is always someone in your team with full access.
The best source of information are the listed companies. They describe how the sector work, who are their main competitors, and many times offer benchmarks and useful industry reference. Check annual reports, prospectuses and offering memos. If you look properly, you will find it in English and Portuguese. You should also check investors presentations, press releases and everything else in the investors relations website. Piece of advise: save everything that you find useful, sometimes the materials go offline.
Normally, one can find a sector report free of charge. Google it! There is nothing better than a very specific "google search" from a smart and well-informed analyst. You should also search for consultants, Ratings Agencies, regulators, Security Exchange Commissions, Auto-regulation agencies (like ANBIMA), and some other specialized websites. Investment Bank websites have a lot of information, including about public offerings.

Ainda melhor que "as bem caras" são os research reports. Os research reports nem preço tem… Os grandes bancos somente disponibilizam para os clientes qualificados (e para os funcionários do banco de investimento). Se você não for um ou outro, melhor desenvolver o seu network - algum dia você vai precisar… Se você trabalha em banco de investimento, não fica miguelando - um dia você vai precisar também!
Outras fontes também tradicionais podem ser mais ou menos úteis de acordo com o que você procura. Tem outras fontes de informação com custo mais acessível mas são menos completas, como Comdinheiro e Economática. Assinaturas de jornal/revistas (Valor, The Wall Street, Exame, etc) costumam ser bem úteis e sempre tem alguém no time com acesso.
A melhor de todas as fontes de informação ainda são as companhias listadas. Elas descrevem como suas industrias funcionam, quem são seus principais competidores e muitas vezes oferecem ótimos benchmarks e referências para se entender um setor. Confira o relatório anual (annual report) e os prospectuses de ofertas públicas - se você procurar direito, vai encontrar em português e em Inglês. Veja as apresentações para os investidores, press release, vasculhe todo o site de relacionamento com investidores. Dica: salve o que achar útil, tem muita coisa que é retirado depois por alguma razão. É raro, mas acontece muito kkkk.
